The ShoreTel® VPN Phone feature extends the reach of the ShoreTel Pure IP Unified Communications (UC) system, by enabling the secure and remote deployment of ShorePhone™ IP Telephones. With the ShoreTel VPN Phone, users can experience the full and familiar functionality of their IP Phone—as if the phone were on a desk in the office.

Easy-to-deploy

For organizations operating in a global environment where cybercrime is a constant concern, network security is becoming increasingly complex and difficult to manage. To help busy IT groups keep their networks safe, ShoreTel has designed the VPN Phone to be simple to install and easy to manage. Remote users simply connect a ShorePhone IP Telephone to a broadband router and with minimal configuration establish a secure tunnel to the ShoreTel VPN Concentrator. No special skills or complex and time-consuming configuration is required, helping to ensure a low total cost of ownership without having to compromise on security.

Improve traffic flows

As demand for remote network access increases, the ShoreTel VPN uses a dedicated VPN Concentrator for remote IP phones, enabling IT staff to implement a very secure and flexible remote access policy. Existing VPN connections for remote computer users remain unaffected by remote phone traffic and can be managed and secured independently for maximum flexibility. Existing firewalls do not have to be replaced or re-configured. This also helps ensure high performance and high network availability, even at peak traffic times.

Industry-leading security

The ShoreTel VPN uses industry standard Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption technology to tunnel into the network. SSL is commonly used in Web browsers to secure Web traffic, for instance during online banking transactions, and most networks and firewalls are engineered to handle this type of traffic. All data packets to and from the remote IP Phone are securely encapsulated within the SSL connection.
